Probiotics, Bacteria Lowering Cholesterol

Probiotics or good bacteria often found in yogurt. Good bacteria has become well known for his kindness to human health, one of the lower levels of bad cholesterol aka LDL.

Researchers from Canada, Mitchell Jones, found that twice-daily probiotic consumption effectively lowers LDL or total cholesterol.

Jones examined whether probiotics can also menerunkan cholesterol esters, cholesterol molecule attached to a fatty acid. Cholesterol ester along with LDL is a risk factor for heart disease and blood vessels.

The study involved 127 adults who had high cholesterol levels. Half of the respondents are given L.reuteri NCIMB 30 242, lactobasilus bacterial formula twice a day, while the rest given a placebo capsule.

The results after 9 weeks they are getting probiotics LDL levels dropped 11.6 percent compared with those receiving placebo. Cholesterol ester also fell to 6.3 per cent and cholesterol esters of saturated fatty acids fell 8.8 percent.

In addition, people who diligently eating probiotics was also decreased total cholesterol to 9.1 percent. While it is good cholesterol and triglyceride levels did not change.

The scientists explain that lactobasilus or type of bacteria lowering cholesterol with various ways, one breaks the molecule called bile acids. Lactobacillus reuteri NCIMB 30242 has been fermented and is formulated to increase its effects on cholesterol and bile acids.

Based on the correlation between the reduction in LDL and measurement of bile in the intestine, the study concluded that probiotics break down bile acids resulting in a decrease in the intestinal absorption of cholesterol and decrease LDL.

To lower cholesterol, it takes 200 milligrams of probiotics every day, much less than the soluble fiber.
