Beware, Germs Food is Not Lost While Dishes It Washed Clean

Jakarta, and the holiday season together with family can be a nightmare in case of food poisoning. Much of the cause is contamination in food. Unfortunately, there are several types of bacteria that is not lost even if the plate had been washed clean.

Researchers from Ohio State University found that the germs that cause food poisoning called norovirus can not be eradicated simply by washing dishes or food containers. This virus turned out to be more stubborn than most bacteria or other germs.
In a report published the journal PLoS One, researchers conducted tests on ceramic plates, drinking glasses and stainless steel cutlery. The three tools are then smeared with cream cheese and low-fat dairy foods that are a little difficult to clean.
The tool was washed by hand and some use a dishwasher, use tap water, sodium hypochlorite and surfactants, the same as the material used in the restaurant. In many cases, the norovirus contamination, Escherichia coli K-12 and Listeria innocua were the most frequent triggers of food poisoning.
Apparently, the bacteria E. coli and listeria can be cleaned, but the norovirus is not. Germs norovirus only slightly reduced in number after washing. Although dishwashers can be more powerful cleaning, it is still not enough capacity repel norovirus.
The researchers conclude that norovirus is more resistant to leaching than bacteria E. coli and listeria. As quoted from the Medical Daily, Wednesday (26/12/2012), the study was actually done to respond to cases of mass poisoning that occurred in the city of Casper, Wyoming in the U.S..
Within the past week, it has been reported 167 cases of gastrointestinal illness caused by food poisoning. The investigation showed that the disease originated from the Golden Corral restaurant, buffet restaurant recently opened one month before the outbreak spread.
One of the poisoning victims who had eaten there with his family to say that he saw the dish served over dirty dishes, but they still eat food. An employee told him that the dishwasher was not working.
But health inspectors visited the restaurant after the outbreak of poisoning pleaded not see any dirty dishes and find a dish washer still works well.
