Study: IQ Test Not Accurate for Assessing Intelligence

Jakarta, IQ tests have been known for many years. Many people believe that this test can accurately measure a person's intelligence, but there is also the opinion the results are not necessarily accurate. A recent study supports the idea that states both IQ tests can be wrong.

The study, published in the journal Neuron this confirms that the IQ test is not an accurate predictor of intelligence. In fact, according to the researchers, there is no single test that has been developed at this time to provide proper assessment of all types of intelligence.
The researchers gave 12 types of cognitive tests to measure different types of intelligence. Broadly speaking, the test set includes tests of memory, reasoning, attention and planning abilities. Questions about the background and lifestyle of the participants is also included.
In this study, the survey method is used that is accessible to all people in the world. At first the researchers thought would only get a response of about 100 people. But it turns out there are about 100,000 people who participated from different ages and cultures.
As quoted from the Medical Daily, Thursday (12/20/2012), the results found that no single test that can describe any kind of intelligence. The difference in the results of the tests themselves can be caused by various factors, such as short-term memory and reasoning.
The researchers then attempted to map how the brain works when processing the cognitive ability to use fMRI brain scans. It was true, lifestyle and background of participants influence the differences in test results.
For example, brain exercise does not help maintain intelligence, aging lowers memory and reasoning, people who suffer from anxiety have a poor short-term memory, smokers have got short-term memory and verbal skills are poor.
On the other hand, people who regularly play video games appears to have short-term memory and reasoning are better than most people. After learning the results of an IQ test is highly influenced by many factors, the researchers wanted to continue the research by testing the new version to see the variation in cognitive ability.
