Discovered Bacteria Cause Obesity


Kompas.com - Obesity has now become a global epidemic. Although lifestyle contribute significantly to the occurrence of excess fatness but scientists say they've identified the bacteria that may lead to obesity.


Research conducted by Prof.Zhao Liping and his team from Shanghai's Jiaotong University, China, it shows none of the mice rapidly become obese when they are exposed to microbes associated with obesity.

In a press statement, Zhao said his research could be the "key to the empirical evidence of chronic bowel disease". A theory which enteric disbateriosis indicated as a key factor leading to obesity or diabetes in humans.

In the research, the scientists isolated a bacterium called Enterobacter were found in the gut obese men weighing 174 pounds. The man managed to lose weight up to 53 kg after the intervention program. The man adopting a diet high in whole grains, traditional Chinese food, as well as probiotics.

After running the program of weight loss, intestinal bacteria Enterobacter man is no longer detectable. He was also suffering from hypertension and hyperglycemia again.

The research team from the University of Chicago also supports the concept of controlling the growth of intestinal bacteria to help you lose weight. Other studies suggest a drink with sweeteners trigger the growth of bad bacteria in the gut.
