According to the Academy of General Dentistry, kissing stimulates saliva, which helps reduce the problem of tooth decay. "Kissing is a natural process of cleaning your teeth," said Heidi Hausauer, dentist and spokesman for the academy as quoted by the website 21st Century Dental.

"Saliva works as a natural dessert that helps remove food particles contained cavities or builds up after a meal," he explained.

He also said that the mineral ions in saliva help provide minerals in tooth enamel. While the types of food that can be consumed as a stimulant of saliva production are foods which contain sugar, salt, butter, and sour foods.
