Key Transmission of HIV in High Risk Men

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Health Minister Nafsiah Mboi said the key to the transmission of HIV / AIDS are at high-risk men (risti) as the "mobile men with money" or men who work away from home, so the socialization goals will be addressed to the group.

"We know there are about 8 million men were moved from their homes to find work. We find the most suitable approach with this group, for example by challenging them 'if it's a male, must be held accountable," said Minister of Health in a media briefing on the situation of HIV / AIDS latest in the Ministry of Health on Tuesday.

Of the four targets and indicators of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) to-6 on HIV / AIDS in 2012, only one indicator that meets the target of reduction in HIV prevalence. While other indicators are the percentage of the population aged 15-24 years who have comprehensive knowledge of HIV, condom use in risk sex and the percentage of PLWHA (people living with HIV / AIDS) who received maintenance therapy (antiretroviral therapy) is still below the target.

Achievement of the third indicator is the percentage of condom use in high-risk sex is still considered far from expectations survey where data Integrated Behavioural Biology (IBBS) in 2011, the use of condoms amounts to 35 percent of the target by 45 percent in 2012 and is still far from the target year 2014 amounted to 65 percent.
To overcome this, the Minister of Health said it would work with cross-sector approach to prioritize and conduct socialization to the man or group of potentially high-risk "mobile men with money".
The men were among others working in remote places such as oil and mining was a regular visitor to the localization indicated that the spread of HIV / AIDS is estimated higher among men.
In addition, socialization is also directed to high-risk sex offenders that they can buy their own condoms because based on experience, free condom distribution less effective than if you have to buy their own.
"So the key point in men, we promote a responsible man, should use a condom for risky sexual behavior," said Nafsiah.
Development of condom distribution in 2011 totaled 194.2 million with the details of which 20.3 million are distributed through family planning programs BKKBN, 15 million condoms distributed by the National AIDS Commission (NAC) and 158.5 million condoms is through commercial sales.
